ACUITY Super-Cooler Reverse-Flow Radiator Hose Kit | Civic Type R FL5/Integra Type S DE5

Modern performance cars create a considerable amount of heat, and the 11th Generation Honda Civic Type R and 5th Generation Acura Integra Type S are no exception. This ACUITY Super-Cooler hose kit changes how coolant travels through the radiator to make better use of the air temperatures reaching different areas of the radiator core.

With the factory arrangement, coolant flow and the incoming air-temperature gradient are not optimally matched. Air warmed by the intercooler passes through the lower area of the radiator, where the factory cooling system routes its cooler outlet coolant. ACUITY's reverse-flow configuration routes hotter coolant through the lower portion and cooler coolant through the upper portion, helping the radiator transfer heat more effectively under demanding conditions.

Importantly, this approach targets the cooling system's efficiency rather than relying solely on a larger radiator. It can complement other cooling modifications, particularly on cars driven hard in high ambient temperatures or extended track sessions.

Beyond the reverse-flow routing, ACUITY upgrades the radiator hoses themselves with polyester-reinforced silicone construction. Compared with the factory EPDM rubber radiator hoses, the silicone material is designed to tolerate significantly higher under hood temperatures while retaining the flexibility required for a reliable coolant connection.

These hoses can withstand under hood temperatures approximately 100°F higher than the original EPDM rubber hoses. This additional thermal capability is especially appealing for turbocharged vehicles regularly exposed to elevated engine-bay temperatures.

The kit also includes German-style hose clamps selected to provide secure, consistent clamping at the hose connections. Together, the upgraded hose material, reinforced construction, and installation hardware provide a purposeful alternative to simply replacing worn original-equipment hoses.

Development of the Super-Cooler concept grew out of performance-oriented cooling work associated with Honda Racing Corporation applications. The reverse-flow approach was used by Team Honda Research FL5 race cars that took first and second in class at the 2024 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Further testing showed improvements of approximately 1°F (0.6°C) on otherwise stock vehicles in hot conditions and as much as 4.5°F (2.5°C) on vehicles with complementary cooling modifications during very hot operation. Actual results will vary with radiator design, airflow, ambient conditions, and the rest of the vehicle's cooling setup.

Those reductions may seem modest, but during repeated high-load driving, extracting additional heat from the coolant can help support more consistent thermal performance. For owners developing a complete cooling package, optimizing flow through the existing radiator is another useful tool.
