Description

Let your FK8 breathe with the aFe Takeda Momentum Pro 5R Cold Air Intake. 27WON has chosen this intake as our go-to system to run on the FK8 and especially our upcoming Turbo Inlet Pipe.

The K20C1 in the Civic Type R moves a serious amount of air. Reducing restriction before the turbo is one of the simplest ways to improve the engine's ability to breathe. The aFe Takeda Momentum Pro 5R Cold Air Intake replaces the factory airbox and intake tract with an application-specific system engineered for the 2017-2021 Honda Civic Type R FK8.

aFe combines a sealed one-piece intake housing, CAD-designed roto-molded intake tube and oversized Pro 5R performance filter into a complete system designed to increase airflow while maintaining a clean, factory-style installation with no ECU calibration or tune required. Just drop in and go!

In testing done by aFe, this intake flowed 153 CFM compared to 116 CFM from the stock intake at 1.5" H2O, representing an improvement of approximately 32%. They found dyno gains of up to +14 horsepower and +16 lb-ft of torque.

More airflow. More induction sound. Proven performance. And no permanent modification to your FK8 if you choose to ever go back to stock.....but why would you?.

less restriction
aFe Takeda Momentum Pro 5R intake for Honda Civic Type R FK8

More air in means less restriction standing between the atmosphere and your turbocharger.

The Takeda Momentum system was designed specifically around the airflow demands of the FK8's turbocharged K20C1. Instead of simply attaching a larger filter to the factory intake tract, aFe replaces the major components responsible for directing air toward the turbocharger with a purpose-built system.

The intake uses a CAD-designed roto-molded tube to create a smooth transition between the airbox and turbo inlet while maintaining the sensor provisions and connections required by the factory engine-management system.

Whether your FK8 is completely stock or already equipped with additional performance upgrades, reducing intake restriction helps give the turbocharger access to a greater volume of incoming air. This means less leg when you step on the throttle and better overall performance.

Airflow numbers give us a direct look at how much restriction an intake system creates.

In aFe's testing at 1.5 inches H2O, the Takeda system flowed:

  • aFe Takeda TM-1025B-R: 153 CFM
  • Factory Honda Type R Intake: 116 CFM
  • Approximately 32% More Measured Airflow

That represents a significant reduction in intake restriction before the turbocharger.

The improvement isn't limited to a flow bench. AFe found actual dyno gains of up to +14 horsepower and +16 lb-ft of torque during testing to back up this lower restriction.

Actual power gains will vary depending on vehicle condition, supporting modifications, fuel, calibration and environmental conditions.

sealed system
aFe Takeda Momentum sealed intake housing and auxiliary air inlet

A high-flow intake shouldn't have to mean leaving an exposed filter sitting in the middle of a hot engine bay.

aFe designed the Takeda Momentum around a one-piece sealed airbox that surrounds the performance filter while still providing the airflow necessary to support the K20C1.

The housing utilizes the Civic Type R's incoming fresh-air supply while also incorporating an additional auxiliary air inlet into the airbox. This helps provide the large filter with additional access to incoming air without abandoning the protection of an enclosed intake system.

The molded construction also allows aFe to control the shape of the airbox and airflow path more precisely than would be possible with a conventional collection of bent tubing and separate heat shields.

Clean fitment, controlled airflow and an installation that looks like it belongs in the FK8 engine bay.

complete kit
aFe Takeda Momentum intake components for Honda Civic Type R FK8

The Takeda isn't just a filter and a piece of tubing. It is a complete replacement intake system designed around the FK8 as a package.

The system includes the major components needed to replace the restrictive factory intake assembly while retaining a clean, straightforward installation.

  • One-Piece Molded Intake Housing
  • CAD-Designed Roto-Molded Intake Tube
  • Pro 5R Performance Air Filter
  • Application-Specific Couplers
  • Stainless Steel Clamps
  • Required Installation Hardware

At the center of the system is aFe's Pro 5R performance filter. The Pro 5R uses multiple layers of progressively finer cotton-gauze filter media and comes pre-oiled for maximum airflow.

Unlike the factory disposable paper filter, the Pro 5R is washable and reusable, allowing it to be cleaned, re-oiled and returned to service when maintenance is required.
