Description

What’s an often-overlooked performance upgrade and one that should be on your radar? If you guessed a brake pad upgrade, you’d be right. We know more glamourous parts like intakes, turbos and exhausts get much of the love but what happens when it comes time to slow all that mass down? That’s where a brake pad upgrade comes into play, specifically a rear brake pad upgrade.

Your stock Honda or part store replacement pads do the job ok for daily driving duty and last a good bit of time while giving off little dust. But, if you want to add a good bit more performance that you can use every day and also run at your next auto-x sesh with more confidence, that’s where an upgraded rear pads like this set comes into play.

Choosing a rear brake pad is a balancing act. Most FWD cars have a braking force distribution of about 70% front and 30% rear. This means braking is biased towards the front wheels with the rear brakes performing a smaller but still essential role. This bias is due in part to weight transfer during braking which shifts a car's weight forward increasing the load on the front tires and their available grip. Got all that? Good because it’s important as you don’t want your rear pads to drag behind in performance especially if you've got upgraded front sets so scoop up the details on our brand new upgraded pads below…

When we set out to develop the ultimate Street pad you see here, it was important that we didn’t lose any of the characteristics that make the OEM Honda pads good for the daily. This meant choosing a hybrid ceramic/metallic compound. This compound has a very wide average coefficient of friction rating of (Mu) 0.4-0.5 with an average effective operating range of ambient – 600C.

This means that these pads start with a good initial bite even when your brake pads don’t have a lot of heat built up in them yet. Ok, so we know they work well when cold but what about when things get hot? Here’s where that upper number matters because at 0.5 Mu bite actually gets stronger as the pads heat up. That’s the ideal overall setup!

One drawback with high friction brake pads is they wear out your rotor faster. You see that when a rotor develops a lip right at the outside edge where the pad ends.

But, because we employ a ceramic component in this pad they are easier on the rotor compared to a metallic pad which gives it more life. It's still recommend to replace your rotor with every brake pad swap as it’s a good insurance policy to keep things well sorted. If you’re on a budget then resurfacing your rotors is another option.

For the rear brakes, Honda uses a common caliper and pad shared across multiple models, trims and years of vehicles so this makes things simple. We have bases covered with fitment all the way from the Type R 2.0T applications down through the non-Si 1.5T equipped L15 models and even the K20 NA 2.0 models with these pads.

If you’re already using our high-performance front brake pads on your setup, sweet! But, our rear pad will also play well with other high-performance sets from brands like Hawk, EBC, Stoptech and more. And yes, you can run this upgraded pad with the stock OEM Honda front pads but we prefer to match them with our front set with the same friction coefficient.
